A rideshare accident may affect a passenger, an app driver, someone in another vehicle or a pedestrian. Coverage can depend on what the driver was doing at the time. A window sticker alone does not establish that a covered trip was in progress.

## Keep your trip information

Save the receipt, route, trip time, driver and vehicle details available in your own account. Keep messages, incident confirmations and screenshots with their original dates.

Explain whether the ride was booked by you or another person. A passenger who did not make the booking can still document the journey and request a consultation.

## Establish the driver's app status

Being offline, waiting for a request, traveling to a pickup or carrying a passenger may involve different insurance questions. A careful timeline helps identify what needs to be confirmed.

Do not assume that Uber or Lyft will pay a particular amount or that a specific limit automatically applies. Actual status, policy terms, responsibility and documented losses need review.

## Track reports and claims separately

Reporting an incident through an app does not necessarily open every relevant insurance claim. Keep platform confirmation numbers, insurer claim numbers and adjuster contact information separately.

Document treatment, missed work and vehicle expenses. Ask which coverage an adjuster is considering, what records are requested and whether any decision has been issued in writing.

## Resolve hand-offs with documents

If one insurer directs you to another, keep the explanation and correspondence. A denial may concern coverage, fault or the information supplied; those are not the same issue.

Bring the full sequence to your consultation, including any proposed release. Tell us your role and any employment-related circumstances so the review addresses your own claim rather than only the driver's.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I request help if a friend booked the ride?

Yes. Explain who booked it and gather the trip details they can lawfully share. Booking ownership alone does not resolve an injured passenger's claim.

### Is an app incident report enough?

Do not assume it meets every policy notice or legal deadline. Confirm which insurers have an open claim and preserve all confirmations.
